Anderson-Peterson Family Distinguished Athlete Award recipients

Additionally at the dinner, the Hammond Sports Hall of Fame’s 23rd annual Anderson-Peterson Family Distinguished Athlete Award will be presented to three 2013 graduates of Hammond high schools who depict the qualities for which the Hammond Sports Hall of Fame was established: dedication, contribution, ability, service and citizenship.

The recipients are Cierra Charbonneau of Morton, Daniel Pobereyko of Noll and Joe Jackson of Hammond High.

Charbonneau earned 11 varsity letters in softball, swimming, cross country and basketball. She also was all-conference in swimming and softball and was honored for Best Mental Attitude in cross country. She also served as a softball and baseball umpire. She attends Purdue University.

Pobereyko earned eight varsity letters competing on Warrior baseball, cross country and swimming teams. The all-conference baseball standout and honor student also competed on his school’s state runner-up Envirothon science competition team. Additionally, he served his community as a volunteer for summer youth camps, Humane Society, Lake Area United Way and Special Olympics. He attends Butler University and competes on the baseball team.

Jackson earned eight varsity letters in basketball, track and football, was all-conference in football and earned his school’s Male Athlete of the Year award. The former National Honor Society member also was active in the Hammond High’s Bible Club. He attends Purdue University Calumet.
